Sunday Reading :: Ten Little Caterpillars

by Bill Martin Jr. and Lois Elhert

We absolutely adore this book. Lois Elhert has illustrated so many nature-themed children’s books in brightly coloured collages. Her style is abstract yet visually accurate; all of the caterpillars and butterflies (and plants) are based on actual species. The rhyming text is very simple; caterpillars adventuring all over, and of course, turning into a butterfly at the end. At the back of the book all of the different caterpillars 1-10 are pictured, along with the butterfly or moth they become. If you loved The Very Hungry Caterpillar, you’ll love this one too!
